I think cord would be as strong if not stronger in choking that chain. With chain all the pressure is exserted into the pin, or the final link, or the weakest link, and theres no give in the rest, therefore making it more likely to snap. With cord, the pressure is equally exserted, over all the cord, or at least all of the cord between the nunchaku, and probably most of the cord in the nunchaku, depending on how they have been strung. It might be something to experiment with.
In either case, its alot easier, and cheaper, to replace some cord, than try and replace something like the tops of a Silverfire nunchaku, or abb kit, or whatever other chain connection.

Im not sure if this is directed my statement, if it was, I meant that the wood broke itself not the connection. Especially on the ones that are stung traditionally with 2 holes on each side and strung thru the top.

yeah i find that my chain pair last hella longer than my rope nunchaku, the tops are the weakest link, and depending on where you go, there may be a significant amount of wood taken out for the cord holes.
my idea of weaponized nunchaku are aluminum with chain. if wood is a preference, the u swivel attachment has served me very well. i would feel secure performing a choke with my woodalls, that they would not break before my opponent did.

Ahh, sorry, i misunderstood you. I am quite surprised that happened, but im sure you could still gut a fair bit of force round someone neck before they snapped. I mean, enough that it would be effective. Ive used my chucks for arm locks before etc and never had any problems. It could be because of how they are strung. Most people dont realise then making chucks, that there is an up and down grain in wood, but also a right and left grain, as in the small sections of wood we are using it is taken 95% of the time from the outside of the circle, if you can understand what i mean. Finding it can be hard, but it can be done. I'm not yet sure which way would be stronger to drill, with the grain markings, or against it, to make it strongest from pressure. It's just an idea that might help, if anyone would know which would work best.

i'm 99% sure it will be stronger is you drilled against the grain, grain going horizntally, drilling going verticallt, if you are looking at the nunchaku in a section view, but im not toally sure, so i wanna see what others think.

woodalls and others go across the grain rather than with. I've snapped chains with locks before but never rope. I guess there are flaws in both designs.

my teacher told me to knee to the solar plexus, not the face, but i suppose if you were smashing they're neck they would be more submissive. what i would do would be to bend down, strike the knee, roll behind the opponent, strike the back of the head, then choke. iv'e only broken two pairs of nunchaku ever, one was chain attached with screw eyes, bad idea, i pulled them out of my back pocket fast and they flew apart, ricocheted of the wall (leaving two large dents) and bounced of the window, fortunately not breaking the window.
the other time i had some pine triple string chucks, and was doing that choke move to a tree. i pressed to hard. they broke at the weak point in the wood, but because it was triple string they still held together, just now they had three joints. and your right, this is FREESTYLE forum, but we should have a section for combat.
